For almost a decade, I’ve been honored to be a college member on the College of Texas at Austin. As a scholar whose analysis and instructing hinge on histories of racism and activism, this April was an exceptionally harsh one for me – and for all of Longhorn Nation. A month that started with the gutting of sources dedicated to our college students has ended with surprising scenes of crackdowns by regulation enforcement in our midst. I’ve been left heartbroken. This spring, our motto, "What Begins Right here Adjustments the World," has taken on a bitterly ironic that means.
