As a european I sure do hope you will reach better standards for people. We only live once, so you better do it good !
And it will benefit all around.
When France adopted the 35hr work week, down from 39 or 40hr work weeks, c.20yrs ago now, then overal French productivity raised by 11%. Being in work for 60-70-80 hrs a week is not effective for either production or quality.
People working themselves into an early grave is not sensible.
America is of course overal, a deeply unplesant society … Elsewhere in the world, within countries which have far better lifestyles, social systems and health systems than the vast majority of Americans … It is normal to have ONE job, not two or three.
6 weeks of fully paid holiday leave, fully paid sickness cover and a working week below 40hrs is normal in decent countries, which have decent societies.
America needs to take a very long, hard look at it's 1pth century social ethos: But it will not. Not the 'American way' is it.
When pigs fly
I need as many hours as i can get groceries and interest rates are destroying my budget.
I think the 5 day work week is perfect, dont change it. What i would like to see is more holidays and vacations, i have been to other countries where they work hard but get week off for Christmas and new years. Week off for Easter, Four-day weekend holidays.. My kids school does that and thats what i did my last years working. Young people should work hard so that when they are old they can work easy or not have to work. Saying everyone should have the same work week isnt good for every one. Some people want to work more hours for more money and are young enough to do it.
Careful Ari, keep this up and MSNBC will find a reason to dump you.
Jesus. What a dream. I pray to only work 40 hours each which. I’m lucky if it’s less that 50. Sometimes it’s over 70. And I’m on salary. I love it so much.
Life is too short to be working most of it! Lets live life less stressful and more adventurous!!!!
Vastly increase the taxes on the wealthy and give the working class a three day weekend. The combined effect on the economy will be terrific.
Working less can actually net you more money in the end. More free time means less stress, healthier life, less need for services and transportation, etc. Plus, productivity increases when we work less.
We are so overdue for this. With most families featuring TWO full-time workers plus side gigs, theres not enough time in the week to get everything done. No wonder everyone is so miserable.
Is one life…
Really enjoyed this interview. Hit me right in the bias. Thank you, Prof. Schor.
ARI is amazing and I bow down because of his appreciation and respect for blackness ❣️ He actually understands what Woke really means and explains it on his Erica Badu interview! THANK YOU ❣️
We call them "Sunday scaries"
Its the people who work in meat plants, sorting warehouses, farms… that need less hours not office workers.
I support this message. ❤❤
I'm loving the hip Hop references😊
It's hard for a population to be connected and to be politically active when all we have time or money for is to go to work… Honestly, that is the point.
The DNC presstitutes are in full coverup mode, they know the Brandon crime family will be exposed, and Trump is innocent😅
I have worked a 4 day week …four days 10 hours a day … I liked it .
Teachers are over worked. We can’t even go to the bathroom when we need to go. Amazon employees are urinating in bottles and cups that needs to be disposed of properly.
Only having 40 minutes to eat which means you can’t leave the building to get something to eat. You can’t communicate with your coworkers. Unhealthy. Corporate workers have 2 hour lunches. Not all but many don’t have to rush back to work. Shoving your food down your own throat.
Most doctor's offices and legal offices (getting your Driver's license renewed or buying your car plates) are not open on the weekends. Also working moms really don't get any days off. Work for someone else 40+ hours – rush to take kids to school and other activities; then spend all day Saturday standing in grocery lines and other needed errands and then spend Sunday doing laundry for an entire family and cleaning your house and finally getting everything ready to do it all again the next week. My weekends were almost worse than the 40-hour workweek!! You wonder why so many women suffer from depression. Her income is needed just for the basics!!
I think they are missing onre big issue. Some jobs are about producing a product or performing a service that does not depend on how long it takes to perform – others don't. All emergency services and services, jobs where you take care of people, jobs where you guard something etc. cannot just be effectivised allowing those who perform those jobs to produce the same in shorter time – nurses in a hospital cannot just take an addition day a week off and let the patients fend for themselves, firefighters cannot just close down the service and take some time off – on a good day their job is to sit around and do nothing for a certain period of time (I know that they use time to train and maintain their equipmet too).
And its not just like there are lots of unemployed people to hire to help out with those jobs.
Labour shortages is probaly the largest threat to Danish economy as the old retire and there are far too few young people to replace them and its the same all over the West. We have failed to reproduce ourselves.
I’m with you Bernie !🇺🇸
This issue is moot. Because robot cars and humanoids are in our near future a mandatory universal income is inevitable. Take semi drivers. There are about 3.5 million employed truck drivers in the U.S. With autonomous vehicles they will be out of a job. The new Tesla gigafactory in Mexico is expected to have half of its workforce be androgenous robots. That will rapidly spread to more industries, businesses, and even residences.
We can't get American's to work period
Especially blacks and Mexicans who are getting free money by complaining about wealthy white people who earned it
Yes. It's time to raise wages and lower the hours. 4 day school week, too.
Bernie is right about the Bush crime syndicate.
Now if he will simply denounce MSNBC as a terrorist organization he'll be right again.
Lets face it the bottom line in the US workforce is America's ruling class's addiction to the unending ruthless acquisition of wealth coupled with their strong attempts to undermine the union movement. Other societies do not worship capitalism in the same way America does so US workers suffer.
Anything even slightly progressive is labeled socialism by the Ultra Conservative minions of the ultra rich and many Americans who have neither historical or political literacy just buy into this BS without taking the time to realise they are cutting their own throats as employees. Too many Americans prefer the illusion of freedom and self determination and willingly support those who will use any subterfuge legal or otherwise, to limit their ability to achieve the mythological lifestyle the manipulators pretend to offer them while always holding any real gains just out of their grasp. The concept of dangling a carrot in front of a donkey is alive and well and much in use across America.
Workers in the US should be shocked to discover that American corporations with branch offices in other more progressive nations comply with the labour laws of those nations without push back because they know they will not be allowed to throw their weight around in cultures who put more value on their workforce than the parent company does at home.
I Know people working 4 days but 10 hours a day is that what you mean
When I was working a 4 day work week I was so much more happy. I worked M -F, 6:30 am to 4pm with Fri -Sun off. The trade off was 10 hour days but worth 3 consecutive days off. I was working in a warehouse and my body needed a rest from all that concrete
Big corp doesn't even want us working at home even though productivity went up cost of operation down and even more hours imagine telling them to work a whole day less a week which is about 52 days less a year. 😂😂😂
I worked in an office where a 4 day work week, 10 hours a day, but it was rotating. Every 3 months. Everyone had a turn. Everyone couldn't wait to have their turn.
Many years ago, I worked in a Wheat Milling Plant. Our work schedule was four days on, three days off then three days on and four days off. We worked twelve-hour days, and I loved it. I always felt well-rested when I went back to work and I had time for my hobbies and community activities that I was involved in at the time. It was a great schedule. It worked out to be that we were working eighty-eight hours in every two-week period but it didn't feel like it.
Here's something gargantuan and tragically normalized that will someday show just how barbaric, uncivilized, and ruthless we are as a species! Take your camera crew and good audio into slaughterhouses like Iowa Select "Farm", or Smithfield, or any of the 1000 concentration camps where living sentient beings, reduced to commodities, are trucked in extreme weather, crammed in, terrified, sick, hurt, distressed, to be offloaded for their final experience with humans, being shot in the brain ( Bolt Stunner) hoisted by one leg, struggling, writhing, as panicked as any of us would be in the same situation, to have their throats cut open, legs chopped off, guts opened up, skins pulled off, and chopped up into pieces for all that saturated fat that gives consumers of this fare, all the degenerative, zoonotic and environmental diseases manifesting from this failed agriculture matrix. Keep an OPEN MIND when you look at VSD, ventilation shut down, right here on YT, and know that in this "free" nation, advocates for ending the mutilation, torture and slaughter of sentient beings we've decided were food, not the pets we cherish, are being arrested and tried for trying to save animals who were thrown on dead piles that dot the landscape on all factory farms, where living beings are thrown into dumpsters, garbage bins, piled up, many still struggling to breathe! Yes, this is the REAL face of america the not so beautiful . Ari Melber, interview Wayne Hsuing, of Direct Action Everywhere, and ask about operation Death Star and VSD! Show open minded americans the true reality of our so called food system that is killing people from degenerative disease we pay for through USDA ! There's a story waiting to break!
I it would work if we had more of our society covered with a health care system not based on a insurance and profit system and a more socialist based system , like these country’s we are comparing. Our insurance and profit based health care cause a lot of inflation that also endangers our earned equity , property. I believe this causes the masses of our society to work for less and the division between classes to become greater and more extreme, the loss of the middle class
