When the Soviet Union collapsed within the Nineties Ukraine was one of many largest new nations to emerge. It held its first elections in 1991.
Bordered by Russia on the east and by Hungary, Poland and Slovakia on the west, politics in Ukraine have all the time been divided alongside these trying east in the direction of Russia and people seeking to the West.
Putin has stated that Ukraine is “historical Russian soil” however nearly all of Ukrainians don’t really feel this manner, with 68% of Ukrainians in favour of becoming a member of the EU.

Of course you didn't mention that Victoria Nuland and the rest of the US State Department psychos were on the ground and organising the alleged "revolution" in Maidan in 2014.
Let’s go Russia !🇷🇺
Not accurate.
Interestingly, if they are supposed to become EU member why we fled from EU? Things are not just black and white, in my opinion, they were supposed to stay independent, and to profit out of it, they had much cheaper gas prices then the rest of the EU, but just as our politicians, theirs are not working for the country but for themselves, using their positions to gain personal benefits and to secure the future for the few upcoming generations, all politicians today are alike, no statesmen, just miserable political clique
This is not how it happened. I cant believe you think the older people dont remember what really happened. This is nothing more than government propaganda.
The beginning is wrong the biggest country was Khazkstan and there where country's in Central asia
So, according to the BBC the history of Ukraine began in 1991.

They weren't pro Russian rebels in the east – they were Russian army with drafted locals. There's a difference.
WTF, Zelensky was elected based on this campaign to make peace with Donbass and Lughan. He was the one who led Ukraine into this mess by talking about NATO and Nuclear installation.
A brief history of the beginning of modern Ukraine: Drunk Yeltsin met with Kravchuk 1991 and they dissolved USSR and Ukraine was created for the first time. Yeltsin was so drunk that he forgot to tell Kravchuk that Crimea will stay with Russia.
It’s long rumored that the present Ukraine is rife with ultra nationalist andNazi. It wasn’t long ago that these elements spread havoc from Germany and devised Europe.
these propagandists can't even mark sevastopol as a part of crimea🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ i just don't wanna know how deceived english speaking viewers
Не надо было убивать русских людей на Донбассе с 2014 по 2022го-8 лет! Европейские негодяи спокойно смотрели на это как и американцы.Американцы и европейцы-подонки и нацисты.
If Putin sees Russians and Ukrainians as "one" people – then why is he killing them? And causing the death of so many Russians? I thought he invaded Ukraine to free it from Nazi's. And it was the Nazi's he would be killing. By the way, how many Nazi's have been killed or captured by Russia? The bottom line: The Soviet Union lost the cold war and collapsed. Proof communism is a failed governmental system. Get over it, and maybe do what's right by your country Putin. Oh wait, too late for that.
Ukraine is russian, but they want US to pay for it.
I have a question for AI….but i won't ask it till, October 7th 2028.
I want a tax rebate.😅
go home, to your rocking share please
Ukraine
Back in 2011 a corrupt Ukrainian government allowed Russia to take over Crimea and move into the Donbass. That leader refused to join NATO and the States weren't letting them in anyway , didn't want to start WW3. So , there was no approachment on the Russians at that time Zelensky wasn't even elected until 2019. Putin wants the sea and access to it , that's where we're at.
Russians want to be with Russia. Poland, Russia, Ukraine are and will be at war. The USA would not allow Canada or Mexico take land, why would Russia.
Also, the reporter forgot to mention that Ukraine has a long history and existed long before the Soviet Union, under other names, but the nation was the same
It's pretty clear cut what happened… This Needs to be reshared amonst the arrogant, Ignorant Americans..
Western part of Ukraine belongs to Hungarian people who lived there all history…

It's so funny to see how support for Ukraine has fallen after the lies and truth have been exposed. Ukraine's history starts in 1991 only because the west wants to forget over a thousand years of history, their hypocritical actions, and propaganda conditioning to promote warmongering sentiment against Christian Russia. No mention of Ukrainian and Russian peoples being directly linked and ethnically and linguistically indistinguishable, direct Ukrainian collaboration with Nazi Germany, NATO expansionism, Imperial Austria and Germany's intelligence operations/Mitteleuropa involvement in the creation of a state called Ukraine in 1917, and Lenin's support for Ukrainian nationalism that was created by Germany during WW1 to directly weaken Russia by artificially carving states out of it. Funny how things change. Time is a flat surface, and the same lies will always be repeated.
Stop funding Ukraine

MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN
The word "ukraine" or "krai" (also "kraina" /// for example there is Kraina in Austria – slavic region) is the old Slavic term which means a land, region or province (variations : far land, edge land, big land+ also with meaning "far from center"). For example in Moscow merchant, which return from trip to Britain could easily say " I was in British ukraine". In Moscow tsardom archives of 16-17 th centuries there have been many petitions to the Tsar from peasants and people from different parts of Russia – they often begin like this: “Sovereign Tsar-Father, your slaves are writing to you from Ryazan(skaya) ukraine / or Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Perm, White Sea, etc. ukraine ( =region, land)" This is just old Slavic designation of province , remote land (u kraya =near edge) In France, for example, there is region of Provence – it can be translated in old eastern slavic from Latin as ukraine – it wasnt geographical name before emergence of the historical Zaporozhye land of Cossacks =Ukraine on Dnieper between Poland and Russia
Historically Kyiv was founded in 482, noted in chronicles for.2,000 years earlier in the region along the Dnipro river, with added archaeological evidence of civilizations in the region for over 25,000BC. Moscow was founded in 1147, no earlier evidence of settlements, yet from the 12th century Moscovites began invasions on Ukraine. Russians have historically always been destroying Ukrainian identity and independence.
OMG/////DEMOCRACY MEANS DESTRUCTION/////
Ukraine should apply to join BRICS. Things would turnaround over night.
During a visit to Lithuania on November 28-29, 2014, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych refused to sign an Association Agreement with the EU. President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, in an address to the party congress received by ITAR-TASS, tried once again to explain the reasons why it was decided not to sign the association agreement with the EU.
"We gradually raised salaries and pensions, reformed the country, bringing it closer to European standards, and prepared for the signing of an association agreement, a free trade area with the EU. But in October, it was discovered that these agreements had not passed the mandatory parliamentary hearings with the participation of commodity producers," Yanukovych said. "And when this issue began to be forced, and the information reached industry trade unions, individual large enterprises, associations of commodity producers, it was a shock for them."
"After all, it was no secret that our agricultural producers had a subsidy from the budget ten times lower than their colleagues from Europe, for whom the consumer market of Ukraine was 100% open. As a result, our Ukrainian commodity producer became uncompetitive. It was necessary to leave our own consumer market," Yanukovych said.
"Russia has warned that if an agreement with the EU is signed, it will protect its market and raise customs duties for Ukraine, fearing re-export," the president continues. – Thus, for Ukrainian enterprises working in the agro-industrial complex and related industries, there was a real threat of shutdown, which means that job losses are a disaster! Considering that 7-8 million workers work and are supported by agriculture and related industries, this is almost half of the entire working-age population of Ukraine.
A similar problem concerned almost the entire machine-building complex of Ukraine, transport engineering, energy, military-industrial complex, etc.
"In fact, we had no other choice than to offer our EU partners to take a break and hold trilateral negotiations in the EU-Ukraine-Russia format," the president stressed. – To search in this format for mutually acceptable answers to the questions that we have in our trade and economic relations."
"And I had to do it. I could not sign this agreement in this version: it did not correspond to the national interests of Ukraine. This agreement brought a huge number of irreparable risks to the country," Yanukovych said.
The second question that put Ukraine in a difficult situation on the eve of the Vilnius summit is the IMF's response to the terms of the loan, namely, an increase in gas tariffs for the population by 50%, a salary freeze, and this, in turn, meant a reduction in pensions and other social benefits, which would turn into trouble for people, Yanukovych said.
"As president and as a patriot of my country, I could not accept such conditions," he stressed. "Therefore, in search of a way out of the current situation in the Ukrainian economy, we agreed with Russia to reduce the price of gas from $430 to $268.5, allocate a state loan of $15 billion and up to $5 billion of development loans at acceptable credit rates," he continued. – We agreed to develop a "roadmap" to restore about $15-17 billion in trade turnover between our countries lost over the past 1.5-2 years. We have signed an agreement that we will consider joint programs in a number of industries in order to increase the output of finished products and create new jobs."
"But everything that happened next could not have been dreamed of even in the most terrible dream," Yanukovych said. – I do not condemn dirty statements in my direction, those who feared for their lives and the safety of their loved ones, let the Lord be the judge for the rest. All those who rushed and are rushing to power at the cost of people's blood and grief, all those who encouraged and helped them, be sure: you will not build happiness on this, and you will not have the last word," Yanukovych stressed.
Four years after the incident, former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, in an interview with journalist Anatoly Shariy, explained the reason why the Ukrainian leadership decided to refuse to sign an Association Agreement with the EU.
"We conceived the Association Agreement as a way of modernizing Ukraine, technological renewal of our industry. It is no secret that advanced technologies come from such highly developed countries as Germany, Great Britain and so on. Therefore, naturally, our interest was in cooperation with these countries. But in the process of negotiations, I became convinced that this is an external wrapper. The EU has the same agreements with Egypt, with three dozen countries. But there were no breakthroughs anywhere. We should have figured out right away that there is no free cheese anywhere," Azarov said.
According to him, Europe has perceived Ukraine as a competitor. The EU had no intention of helping to restore and improve a number of industrial sectors.
"In order to raise our Antonov, I wanted it to cooperate not only with Russian companies, but also with such technology companies as Airbus," Azarov recalled.
However, he did not see any interest, but on the contrary, he noticed a fear of potential competitors. According to the former prime minister, EU officials looked at Ukrainians "not in a partnership way." At the same time, for some European bureaucrats, the non-signing of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU was the end of their career. Moreover, with this document, according to Azarov, they tried to finally tear Ukraine away from Russia and put an end to the possible restoration of the USSR in any form.
Note: Antonov is a Ukrainian state—owned enterprise whose main field of activity is air cargo transportation, as well as the development, production and repair of aircraft of the An series.
Yanukovych himself recalled three years later: according to preliminary estimates, if the association agreement were signed, Ukraine would lose $200 billion.
"When we saw the losses, we didn't see the compensators. And I told the EU: either you compensate us for the losses… They said, "We won't give you that kind of money, we don't have it."… Then there is a second way — let's sit down at the negotiating table with our strategic partner, Russia, and find a solution in this triangle," Yanukovych said.
However, the EU did not agree to this, although Yanukovych did not propose to completely abandon the Association Agreement, but only to postpone it. According to the ex-president of Ukraine, it was necessary to return to discussing the signing of the agreement in March 2014. However, by that time Yanukovych himself was on the run, and there was a new government in Kiev.
On April 14, 2014, the current decree №405/2014 of the President of Ukraine on the start of the so-called Anti-Terrorist Operation was published: "To put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine dated April 13, 2014 "On urgent measures to overcome the terrorist threat and preserve the territorial integrity of Ukraine." the execution of the decree was entrusted to the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Parubiy. While adopting laws and resolutions, the Verkhovna Rada could not decide who the "terrorists" in Ukraine were, against whom the so-called anti-terrorist operation. Illegal was the position of "acting president", which was occupied by Turchynov, who issued the decree. The use of the Armed Forces of Ukraine against the population of their own country was unconstitutional. It was illegal to create the so-called volunteers. They began to form from the Maidan hundreds, criminals and arm themselves from March 14, 2014. They had to shed the first blood in the Donbass, so that units and subunits of the Armed Forces of Ukraine overcome the psychological barrier in the fight against their fellow citizens. In March 2017, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on the Day of the Ukrainian Volunteer. Parubiy, who became secretary of the National Security and Defense Council after the Maidan, and then chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, when voting for the bill, noted that “in the spring and summer of 2014, volunteer battalions saved the independence of Ukraine.” In early March 2014, the Kiev regime received first US military aid totaling about $23 million. The aid was clearly not intended to “overcome the terrorist threat and preserve the territorial integrity of Ukraine.” On March 17, 2014, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law approving the decree of the Acting President of Ukraine "On Partial Mobilization". Mobilization was carried out throughout the territory of Ukraine. On April 7, Acting President Turchynov announced the creation of an anti-crisis headquarters and that "anti-terrorist measures will be taken against those who have taken up arms." The first "anti-terrorist" demonstration took place in Kharkov in April. In May-June, the full-scale use of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, volunteer battalions began on the territory of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, where referendums were held on May 11 and the DPR and LPR (Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics) were proclaimed. In fact, the so-called ATO of Kyiv deployed throughout Ukraine immediately after the coup d'état in February, assisted by foreign instructors, "mobile groups of military instructors." About a hundred foreign advisers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine began to "serve" in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine in 2008 (before "08.08.08" there were 123 of them in the Ministry of Defense of Georgia). The ranges and training centers of Ukraine, in fact, were at the disposal of NATO instructors. During the so-called ATO, which was replaced in 2018 by the OOS (Operation of the United Armed Forces of Ukraine), more than 13 thousand people died, about 30 thousand were injured. In 2016, according to the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, more than 1.7 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) were registered. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, at the beginning of March 2017, there were 2.3 million citizens of Ukraine in Russia, of which more than a million were refugees from Donbass.
On April 7, 2014, the Republican People's Council declared the sovereignty of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). On April 27, the Luhansk People's Republic (LNR) was proclaimed at a rally in Lugansk.
On May 11 of the same year, referendums on the status of republics were held in Donbass. 89.7% of voters voted for self-determination in the Donetsk region, 96.2% in Luhansk. On May 12, the state sovereignty of the people's republics was proclaimed, the constitution of the DPR was adopted on May 14, and the LPR on May 18.
On February 21, 2022, Russia recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR). A few days later, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation in Ukraine. The decision was made in response to a request for help from the People's Republics of Donbass.
On September 23-27, 2022, referendums on the issue of joining Russia were held in the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, as well as in the liberated territories of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
The results of the referendums
In the LPR, 98.42% of voters voted for joining Russia (100% of protocols were processed);
Kherson region — 87.05% (100% of protocols processed);
Zaporizhia region — 93.1% (100% of protocols processed).
DNR — 99.23% (100% of protocols processed).
On September 30, 2022, international agreements were signed on the entry of new regions into the Russian Federation on the rights of its subjects.
On October 3, 2022, the State Duma voted for the ratification of treaties on the inclusion of regions into Russia, and on October 4, the documents were approved by the Federation Council.
