In the meantime, on November 28, high authorities sources had informed PTI that the Defence Procurement Board (DPB) has accorded in-principle approval to the bold proposal signalling the federal government’s readiness to go for the second indigenous plane service, to be referred to as IAC-II.
The Indian Naval Drive has been making a powerful push for having the IAC-II with a displacement of 45,000 tonnes which is estimated to value near ₹40,000 crore with the envisaged specs.
India’s first indigenously-built plane service INS Vikrant (IAC-I) was commissioned in September by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sources stated the IAC II might be form of a repeat order of the IAC-I. In accordance with the plan, the IAC-II might be constructed by state-run Cochin Shipyard.
